While there is no such thing as a truly “quiet” week in college football, the Big Ten conference’s came pretty close to one in Week 3.
The conference’s top-ranked team, top-ranked Ohio State, overcame a shaky start to in-state program Ohio to beat the Bobcats 37-9 in Ohio Stadium.

Elsewhere, No. 2 Penn State similarly staved off an upset as Drew Allar, Kayton Allen and the Nittany Lions beat Villanova 52-6 Happy Valley. Dante Moore led No. 4 Oregon to a win in its Big Ten opener against Northwestern, 34-14, along the shores of Lake Michigan.
No. 22 Michigan bounced back against Central Michigan without head coach Sherrone Moore, who was serving the first of back-to-back game suspensions. Bryce Underwood was impressive in the showing, completing 16 of 25 passes for 235 yards and a score.
Michigan State and USC also remained undefeated on the season with wins over Youngstown State and Purdue, respectively.

It wasn’t all good for the Big Ten in Week 3, however. Luke Fickell and Wisconsin struggled in a 38-14 loss to No. 18 Alabama that wasn’t as close as the score suggested, and are now 2-1 to start the season. And Big Ten newcomer UCLA fell to an 0-3 record that seemed impossible at the start of the season following a 35-10 drubbing by New Mexico.
Here’s a look at how those games are reflected in the Week 4 US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 rankings:
