Frances Tiafoe has not found much success at the Davis Cup over the years.
Tiafoe is a two-time US Open semifinalist and has been ranked as high as world number 10 in the ATP rankings.
After a disappointing US Open tournament this year, Tiafoe was looking to return to winning ways in Delray Beach for USA’s second Davis Cup qualifier tie against Czechia.
However, that did not come to fruition, as Tiafoe was beaten by Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik, meaning that he has still only won one match representing his country in the Davis Cup.

Tiafoe has now lost five consecutive matches in the Davis Cup, with the world number 29 winning just one of his last 10 sets in the competition.
The American actually only has one victory in his eight matches in the Davis Cup, with Tiafoe’s single win coming in 2021.
At the 2021 Davis Cup Finals Group Stage in Turin, Tiafoe won the opening rubber of USA’s tie against Colombia.
Tiafoe was able to beat Nicolas Mejia, who was the world number 275 at the time, saving two match points to do so.
Despite his contributions, Colombia actually fought back to beat USA, making Tiafoe’s win somewhat meaningless.

Tiafoe’s winless run at the Davis Cup, coincides with USA’s recent drought in the competition.
USA are record 32-time Davis Cup champions, but have failed to win the title since 2007 and have not even reached the final in the last 18 years either.

While the USA have not had much Davis Cup success in recent years, not every American player has struggled as much in the competition as Tiafoe.
American number one Taylor Fritz has played 12 matches for the USA, and he has won eight of those.
Fritz overcame illness to beat Jakub Mensik to get his latest win for the USA, but he was unable to get the job done in his second tie against Czechia.
With the USA needing just one more win to secure their place in the Davis Cup Finals, Fritz struggled against Lehecka, before Mensik finished the job after beating Tiafoe.

Both players will now head their separate ways, as Fritz travels to San Francisco for the Laver Cup, the event which Tiafoe withdrew from.
Tiafoe’s next scheduled tournament is the Japan Open, where he is set to reunite with Fritz, who is also entered into the ATP 500 event.
