A man is facing criminal homicide charges after police say he intentionally set fire to a home in Castle Shannon that injured one and killed another on Sunday morning. According to a criminal complaint, police received multiple 911 calls regarding an explosion and fire at a home near 840 Corbett Drive just before 10 a.m. When first responders arrived at the scene, they said a home was completely engulfed in flames. The complaint said firefighters began extinguishing the fire and attempted to extricate two people trapped inside. Officials said a 19-year-old woman was later pronounced deceased at the scene. Another woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment.Following the fire, police interviewed the second woman, who said she told Brian Shelleby, 46, that he could not stay at the home because they were separated, which is when he told her he was going to “burn the house down.” The woman said she then heard the sound of liquid being poured downstairs in the garage while she was in the kitchen. The 19-year-old, later identified as Lakyn Shelleby, said to the woman that she had seen Brian pouring gasoline, the complaint continued. According to the complaint, the woman then said they attempted to leave the house when the explosion occurred. Brian Shelleby was later detained by police and admitted to setting the fire.
