Love, 41, was a top candidate for head coach vacancies this summer, interviewing with the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins and Seattle Kraken. He emerged as a sought-after assistant after the Capitals finished atop the Metropolitan Division and advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.
In a statement released on social media Sunday, the Capitals said they would not comment on Love’s situation until the NHL completes its investigation.
