All of the “Hunger Games” films are based off of the novels by Suzanne Collins. “Sunrise on the Reaping” released in March of this year and sold 1.5 million copies in its first week. The story takes place twenty-four years before the events of the first “Hunger Games” book, following the character Haymitch Abernathy as he competes in the fiftieth Games.
Joseph Zada will star as Haymitch, accompanied by a robust cast of Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Jesse Plemons, Billy Porter, Lili Taylor, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace and Ben Wang. Francis Lawrence directs in his fifth “Hunger Games” adaptation.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group International President Helen Lee Kim said, “It’s a thrill to see our partners who have been with us since the beginning continue their collaboration with such enthusiasm and commitment. Their incredible response to Suzanne’s storytelling, the extraordinary filmmaking team of Francis and Nina, and the electric cast underscores the film’s massive global appeal.”
The film is currently in production in Europe.
