MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A new device created by research from Cornell University promises to keep geese away not by hurting them, but by scaring them. Meet the Goosinator.

Many businesses and communities have expressed frustration with growing geese populations that congregate in public or private areas, scaring customers or leaving droppings.

Eric Griffith, the Director of Parks and Recreation in the city of Moline, said that the birds were becoming a genuine problem.

“Every seven years geese double their herd,” Griffith said. “After having conversations we thought that this was the best method to control the geese population.”

That method? A remote control device painted bright red with an intimidating face called the Goosinator.

The device aims to dissuade geese from congregating in specific areas not by hurting them, but by scaring them away.

The Goosinator is available for purchase on its website, along with decoys that will continue to scare geese after they learn to fear the device.
