Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine
Paul Gordon-Ross, DVM, MS, PhD, is among the newest faculty members for the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (PCVM). He also serves as the Year Four Clinical Training Lead and Director of Fourth-Year Curriculum. Gordon-Ross began his veterinary career after earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis. He initially practiced equine medicine before transitioning to small animal care. He later joined the College of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences, where he served for nine years as Director of Clinical Relations. This role sparked his passion for advancing education and mentoring future professionals, inspiring him to complete his PhD in education focused on faculty development. He later became the Director of Year 4 Curriculum, where he oversaw the capstone year of the veterinary program at WesternU, ensuring students were prepared for practice.
“Clemson University’s vision for the PCVM is rooted in innovation, academic excellence and service to the community and aligns with my values as an educator and academic,” said Gordon-Ross. “I was particularly attracted to the opportunity to be part of a new institution where I can contribute meaningfully to the foundation and culture of the program–setting the tone.”
Gordon-Ross is no stranger to helping build veterinary medicine programs from the ground up. He says he’s hoping to make an impact by creating a learning environment where students feel challenged, supported and inspired to grow, not just intellectually, but professionally and ethically.
“I bring with me a strong background in curriculum development, and I look forward to helping design integrated, student-focused learning experiences that connect anatomy and basic sciences with clinical relevance from the start. Additionally, I hope to serve as a mentor and collaborator across departments, supporting the college’s evolving needs as it grows. This is my second time being a part of a new college, which brings the unique chance to help shape the academic and cultural identity of the program, something I consider both an honor and a responsibility.”
He adds that the decision to join the PCVM team was an easy one as he recognized a positive energy and clarity of purpose amongst the faculty and staff.
“Clemson’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, its student-centered approach and its land-grant mission aligns perfectly with my belief that veterinary education should be collaborative, rigorous and accessible, helping students grow into exceptional clinicians.”
Outside of work, Gordon-Ross enjoys outdoor activities, photography, travel and camping.
“I enjoy hiking, snowboarding, camping, mountain biking, fly fishing, and I look forward to exploring the natural beauty of South Carolina. I also enjoy cooking and spending time with friends.”
