NORKA Care, the country’s first medical accident insurance scheme for expatriates and their family members, will be launched on November 1. NORKA Roots resident vice chairman P Sreeramakrishnan said that the project would be inaugurated on September 22 by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The medical insurance scheme ensures cashless treatment for expatriate Malayalis at 16,000 hospitals across the country, including 500 in Kerala. The scheme also envisages providing treatment at the hospitals in GCC countries in the future. Expatriates who are part of the scheme could renew the policy even after they return to Kerala.
Expatriate Keralites would get medical insurance of Rs 5 lakh and accident insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh for a year. Those within the age group of 18 – 70 years could be the members of this scheme without any medical checkups. The insurance would also cover the diseases that they are currently undergoing treatment for.
The premium for individuals is Rs 8,101 while it is Rs 13,411 for a four-member family (husband, wife and two children up to 25 years) — an additional premium amount of Rs 4,130 needs to be paid for an extra child. The scheme will be launched in association with New India Insurance Company.
The registration process will take place from September 22 to October 22. NORKA Roots CEO Ajith Kolassery stated that the special registration app would be ready by September 22. Besides, expatriates could also register via companies where Keralites work as well as organisations approved by NORKA.
Meanwhile, expatriate associations that do not have NORKA’s approval will be granted a temporary ID number under certain guidelines for mass enrolment. Expatriates or associations could contact the NORKA global contact centre to know more about the scheme.
