PRN Radio play-by-play NASCAR broadcaster Rob Albright has officially retired following a decorated 29-year career.
On Saturday, Albright took his perch atop Bristol Motor Speedway for one last time to call the Bass Pro Shops Night Race. The Cup Series Playoffs Round of 16 elimination race featured no shortage of wild moments, as Josh Berry’s car was engulfed in flames while Chase Elliott got caught up in a massive wreck.
For nearly three decades, Albright called around 700 NASCAR races for PRN Radio while also serving as a pit producer for NBC Sports on occasion. Before pursuing a career in broadcasting, he acted as former driver Johnny Benson’s manager and public relations representative.
This season, Albright shortened his schedule to seven races in the leadup to his retirement. Following his departure from PRN Radio, he will partake in ministry work at Camp Bethel — a Christian summer camp in Fincastle, Virgina, run by his son-in-law.
Prior to the Bass Pro Shops Night Race, Albright was presented with a retirement cake in the Bristol Motor Speedway media center. Taking to social media, several of his peers offered him well wishes.

“Honoring my friend Rob Albright who is retiring from @PRNlive after Bristol,” WCYB Sports Anchor Heather Williams wrote on X. “He’s a Wise County resident and he’s going to continue to live there and volunteer at the youth ministry he helps to run.”
SiriusXM NASCAR host Davey Segal added: “Rob is retiring from @PRNlive after 29 years of calling races when the checkered flag flies tonight. Tonight is his last one. Been a part of tons of moments throughout the history of the sport. Wishing him the best in his new ‘retirement’ chapter.”
In addition to his coworkers’ thoughtful gesture, Albright was given the honor of leading the invocation by Bristol Motor Speedway president Jerry Caldwell. “Rob is going to get to open up Thunder Valley Coliseum in prayer for Saturday night’s race before taking his perch above it and call it his final race,” PRN announcer Doug Turnbull said on the ‘Five to Go’ podcast.

Reflecting on Albright’s influence on motorsports, Turnbull added: “[Rob had] just a storied history in the sport. He’s been a familiar voice, and not a traditional radio voice — kind of the higher register voice — but a wealth of knowledge, so analytical. But more importantly, all of that is a man of God and someone who just absolutely cares about people, prays for strangers talking to him.”
Albright didn’t only positively impact NASCAR, but also the people he worked with. “When I was going through the toughest time of my life, seven years ago, going through divorce, we were riding in a golf cart together,” Turnbull recalled. “And I’m right up there with Rob and Rob … goes, ‘How can I pray for you? Is there anything going on with you?’ At that point in my life, you almost made a mistake if you asked me what was going on. And I told him as brief as I could on a golf cart ride what was happening in my life.
“We have been really tight ever since. He cared and he listened and it turns out he’s a marriage counselor. He had been through the same thing in his life too. So that means a lot to me that he spent that time, and over the years he’s been very wise and given me rides at the racetrack.
“I appreciate those times with Rob Albright, and I’m going to miss those times with him. So cheers to you, Rob.”
