‘Luigi: The Making and the Meaning’ promises to ‘explain why the world was primed for the Luigi Mangione moment’

Luigi Mangione is back in the news after the alleged killer of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson appeared in New York state court for a pretrial hearing. Mangione’s latest court appearance comes shortly after the announcement of Luigi: The Making and the Meaning, a new book that promises to “explain why the world was primed for the Luigi Mangione moment.”
Available now for preorder, John H. Richardson’s Luigi aims to provide context for the outpour of support after Thompson’s murder in December. The book’s official summary states that Mangione has been “embraced as an avenger with an affection not seen since Jesse James or Robin Hood.” Richardson asserts that this stems from a “widespread alienation,” which has been building over the last three decades.

Luigi: The Making and the Meaning will be released on Nov. 4, and it’s available for preorder in hardcover format now at retailers including Amazon, Target, and Barnes & Noble. An audiobook version will also be made available upon the book’s release.
After the 26-year-old Ivy League graduate was arrested and charged with the murder of Thompson, the public’s response was largely supportive. Internet commentators and celebrities expressed support for Mangione’s apparent goal of avenging those denied claims by health insurance companies. #KillMoreCEOs trended on Instagram, with some celebrities like Ethel Cain co-signing the sentiment.
Richardson’s Luigi is the first definitive book about Mangione, although there have already been multiple documentaries about the highly-debated murder suspect.
