Alexis Mac Allister expects to be fit for the Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid despite taking a nasty blow to his ankle on Sunday.
Mac Allister was substituted at half-time in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Burnley after a strong challenge from midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu which collided with his ankle.
Arne Slot took the decision to withdraw his No. 10 at the break having already taken off Milos Kerkez earlier in the half, insisting it was not solely due to the effects of that tackle.
Still, there will have been concerns around whether Mac Allister could be involved when Liverpool host Atletico Madrid only three days later.
But taking to Instagram on Monday night, the 26-year-old suggested he would be fit to take part in the league phase opener.
“A hard-fought away win, good work by the team,” he wrote. “Time to recover my ankle and think about a new Champions League campaign.”
It is therefore likely that Mac Allister will make the squad for the 8pm kickoff at Anfield, with a further update to come when Liverpool hold their open session at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Slot could opt to leave the Argentina international on the bench, however, with rotation expected ahead of the Merseyside derby on Saturday.
Curtis Jones missed the trip to Burnley and it is not yet known whether he will be available against Atletico, but Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Florian Wirtz, Wataru Endo and youngster Trey Nyoni are all fit.

Gravenberch, Szoboszlai and Wirtz may be the most likely trio to start in midfield, though there is cause to argue that Endo should replace Gravenberch.
Stefan Bajcetic is Liverpool’s only other known absentee but the Spaniard is not far off returning, having undergone hamstring surgery in May.
He is set to be slowly reintroduced with game time for the U21s, who are next in action against Man United on Sunday.
