PROVO, Utah – Officials have released seven total charges against the suspect accused of murdering Turning Point USA co-founder and conservative activist Charlie Kirk and will seek the death penalty.

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced the charges against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson Tuesday, September 16. Robinson is accused of Aggravated Murder, a capital offense and felony discharge of firearm. Robinson is also accused of obstruction of justice, 2 felony counts of witness tampering, and commission of offense when children were present, a misdemeanor.

Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University September 10. Gray, who described Kirk’s death as “an American tragedy, said Robinson told his roommate to delete possibly incriminating information after the shooting.

Robinson appeared in court virtually Tuesday, only speaking to identify himself. He will continue to be held without bail; his next court date is September 29.

Utah’s primary execution method is lethal injection, though firing squad can be used as a legal alternative.
