Kennewick, wash — If you are a first year teacher , you could qualify for 75 free books.
The Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia offers a program called ” First Year Teacher Library.”
It’s for all first year teachers in Benton and Franklin Counties who teach from first to third grade.
The program provides 75 books with a total value of $250.
” Yeah I was once a first year teacher. I started teaching in a kindergarten classroom. And you know, you walk into the classroom, it’s pretty blank, and you want to make it inviting for kids. You want to make it colorful, attractive, make it a space here they feel comfortable , welcomed, excited to learn. So , I first hand , know how hard it is to start developing that library again. If you go to the bookstore and buy books, you’re looking at least $10 a book right there ” said Leanne Luehrs-Purcell, Executive Director Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia.
Right now they have 25 applicants and are looking for more people to donate to.
The deadline is September 30th, click here to apply.
