Welcome to the 38th edition of the John Innes Centre Advances magazine.
Our bi-annual John Innes Centre science magazine showcases the incredible people and science at our institute, and this edition comes at a time of accelerated momentum in plant and microbial science.
Researchers are close to eradicating polio, or ‘the summer plague’ as it was known, a disease that has long blighted humanity and continues to prey on unvaccinated populations – using technology pioneered and developed right here in Norwich.
Machine learning and AI are here to stay, and our scientists are at the forefront of finding out what they can do for plant and microbial research.
We are also heralding a new era at JIC as Professor Graham Moore FRS retires as Director, and hands over to Professor Cristóbal Uauy. Celebrate Graham’s incredible career and impact on wheat research and genetics in our dedicated feature.
Stemming from past discoveries and research, the innovations of today are pushing us to new frontiers.
You can read the full Advances magazine on our website or via a PDF flipbook – and to make sure you get it delivered straight into your inbox next time, sign up to our e-Advances mailing list.
