ABC10 news station struck by gunfire, Sacramento police say
WE BEGIN WITH BREAKING NEWS. POLICE IN SACRAMENTO RIGHT NOW LOOKING FOR THE PERSON WHO OPENED FIRE AT. ABC TEN NEWS. THAT’S THE STATION IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO. THANKS FOR JOINING US. I’M LISA GONZALEZ AND I’M KURTIS MING. NOBODY WAS HURT BUT SOMEONE SHOT INTO THE WINDOW OF THE LOBBY OF THE STATION. WE KNOW AN EMPLOYEE WAS IN THE LOBBY AT THE TIME, BUT AGAIN, WAS NOT HURT. KCRA 3’S MICHELLE BANDUR IS LIVE AT THE SCENE WITH WHAT WE KNOW. WELL, CURTIS, SACRAMENTO POLICE JUST UPDATED US ON THIS SHOOTING AND THEY ARE CALLING THIS A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING. THEY DON’T HAVE A DESCRIPTION OF THE SUSPECT VEHICLE AT THIS TIME, BUT THEY SAY THEY’RE WORKING ON THAT TO PROVIDE US A DESCRIPTION OF THE CAR THAT WAS HERE WHERE THE SHOOTING HAPPENED. NOW, WE ALSO LEARNED FROM AN EMPLOYEE WHO SAYS THAT SOMEONE ACTUALLY PULLED UP TO THE STATION, GOT OUT OF THE CAR, FIRED THREE GUNSHOTS INTO THE LOBBY AND DROVE OFF. NOW YOU CAN SEE THE SCENE HERE THAT WHERE THAT WINDOW IS BOARDED UP. THAT’S WHERE THE THREE BULLET HOLES WERE THAT WE COULD SEE EARLIER. AND POLICE HAVE ALSO CLEARED THE SCENE. THEY DID HAVE YELLOW CRIME SCENE TAPE HERE EARLIER BUT HAVE NOW CLEARED THE SCENE. TAKE A LOOK AT OUR VIDEO. THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE EARLIER WHEN POLICE WERE HERE INVESTIGATING THE SHOOTING. THEY SAY IT HAPPENED ABOUT 130 THIS AFTERNOON, TELLING US A CAR DROVE UP AND SOMEONE FIRED THREE SHOTS INTO THE BUILDING. AND THAT WINDOW DOES LEAD TO THE FRONT LOBBY OF THE TV STATION. NOW, POLICE COULDN’T SAY HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE IN THE CAR. OR AGAIN, GIVE US A DESCRIPTION, BUT THEY ARE WORKING ON THAT. HERE’S WHAT A MAN WHO WORKS ACROSS THE STREET AT HORIZON TOLD ME THAT HE HEARD TODAY THREE SHOTS GOT POPPED OFF. WAS SINGLE SHOT, AND THEN A SLIGHT PAUSE AND THEN TWO IN RAPID SUCCESSION. AND THEN THAT WAS ABOUT IT. AND WHERE WERE YOU? I WAS JUST RIGHT INSIDE HERE, INSIDE OUR WAREHOUSE. AND DID YOU RUN OUTSIDE OR WHAT DID YOU DO? I JUST CASUALLY WALKED OUTSIDE THINKING IT WAS A BACKFIRE FROM A CAR OR ONE OF OUR PALLETS FALLING DOWN, BECAUSE IT’S PRETTY LOUD OUT HERE. AND WHEN YOU REALIZED IT WAS GUNSHOTS, WHEN DID YOU REALIZE THAT? JUST NOW. FORTUNATELY, WE HAVEN’T HAD A LOT OF ATTACKS ON OUR MEDIA PARTNERS, AND WE LIKE TO KEEP IT THAT WAY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. AND SO, YOU KNOW, TO THOSE THAT MAY HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND AND I HOPE YOU SEE THIS, WE’RE NOT GOING TO STOP LOOKING FOR YOU. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. IT’S NOT GOING TO BE TOLERATED IN SACRAMENTO. AND BACK OUT HERE LIVE OUTSIDE ABC TEN. THAT BOARDED UP WINDOW IS WHERE THOSE GUNSHOTS WENT INTO THE BUILDING. POLICE DO NOT HAVE ANYONE IN CUSTODY AND ARE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION FROM THE PUBLIC. YOU KNOW, IF YOU SAW ANYTHING, IF YOU HEARD ANYTHING, OR MAYBE YOU’RE SEEING OR HEARING THINGS ON SOCIAL MEDIA, THEY WANT TO HEAR YOU. THEY WILL TAKE ANONYMOUS TIPS AND THEY ARE LOOKING AGAIN FOR THAT GUNMAN WHO FIRED SHOTS INTO THE BUILDING. I DID ASK POLICE WERE ANY THREATS MADE RECENTLY AGAINST THE STATION? AND THEY TELL US THAT THAT IS PART OF THE INVESTIGATION. AND AGAIN, THESE ARE OUR COLLEAGUES, EVEN THOUGH WE’RE COMPETITION. OUR THOUGHTS GO OUT TO THEM. WE WORK ALONGSIDE THESE REPORTERS AND PHOTOJOURNALISTS AND ANCHORS IN THE FIELD. ONE WAS OUT HERE ACTUALLY GETTING VIDEO AND GETTING VIDEO OF THE POLICE PRESS CONFERENCE THIS AFTERNOON. HE SAYS EVERYONE IS OKAY PHYSICALLY, BUT REALLY THEY’RE JUST SHAKEN UP OVER THIS INCIDENT. LISA CURTIS YEAH, VERY TROUBLING HITS CLOSE TO HOME. THERE HAVE BEEN PROTESTS OUTSIDE THAT STATION OVER THE SUSPENSION OF JIMMY KIMMEL. DO POLICE THINK THAT COULD BE RELATED? YOU KNOW, THAT’S SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS PART OF THE INVESTIGATION. THEY DON’T KNOW IF IT IS RELATED. THERE WAS A PROTEST HERE THIS MORNING. NOT AT THE SAME TIME AS THE SHOOTING, BUT JUST ALL OF THE INVESTIGATION. THEY SAY THEY DON’T HAVE A MOTIVE, JUST EVERYTHING THEY’RE LOOKING INTO AS TO WHY SOMEONE WOULD OPEN FIR
