WWE Wrestlepalooza is shaping up to be quite the show. The go-home edition of SmackDown was used to deliver some emphatic statements on the air in two of the biggest matches set for the night. Brock Lesnar did more Brock Lesnar things in leaving a wake of destruction behind him. Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes signed their contract for their match on the eve of the event and couldn’t help but get a little physical on the way out.Â
SmackDown on Friday also saw a pair of title matches with some incredible moments as Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair looked to defend the tag team titles while Sami Zayn looked to do the same with the United States championship.
CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.
Lesnar lays out Graves; Rhodes, McIntyre brawl to end the night
Brock Lesnar wants John Cena and he wants him now. Lesnar laid out commentator Corey Graves to open SmackDown on Friday before going on a rampage around the ring.Â
Lesnar was supposed to have an interview with play-by-play man Michael Cole, but Lesnar met him on the entrance ramp and carried him back to the ring before threatening to assault him. That’s when Graves came into the ring to defend his cohort. After delivering an F5 to Graves, Lesnar snarled into the camera, “John! I’m coming for you. Tomorrow is D-Day, I’m coming for blood.” He then hit one more F5 while destroying the setup outside the ring.
To close the night, Rhodes reminded McIntyre that on this date 15 years ago they won the tag team titles. He then told him that instead of being the Scottish Warrior lately, he’s been more of a keyboard warrior. He then implored McIntyre to dg ahead and post again on social media because that’s all he’s good at. McIntyre then showed him his post, which simply said, “Thank you, Cody.” McIntyre told him he just wanted to get a fair, legitimate title shot. McIntyre then ran down Rhodes for being a corporate champion and instead of fighting him with fists, he has been fighting with his words and worrying about stock prices.
Rhodes told McIntyre that if he loses, his legacy will be that he lost to Rhodes again, this time at Wrestlepalooza. McIntyre then hit a Glasgow Kiss on Rhodes after signing the contract. McIntyre took Rhodes out of the ring and was ready to kick Rhodes through the announce table, like he did five weeks ago, but he restrained himself. He then told Rhodes that he’s going to take the title fairly and walked away. Rhodes scrambled to his feet to continue the attack before the two were separated by officials. McIntyre broke free and attacked Rhodes one more time before the show went off the air with Rhodes laid out.
