FWC lowers the number of bear hunting permits to be issued

  • September 20, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has lowered the number of hunting permits they are issuing for the bear hunt, according to their website.

Originally, the FWC said they would issue 187 permits. Now, that number has been reduced to 172. It remains unclear why the agency lowered the number of permits by 15.

Applications for permits opened on Sept. 12 and will remain open until Sept. 22. As of Friday, a total of 100,296 applications have been submitted, per the FWC.

Each application costs $5, and people can apply an unlimited number of times. The state will randomly select 172 people to whom they will issue the permits.

The bear hunt will be December 6-28.
