Closed to the public, the Dale Earnhardt Inc building remains a time capsule of NASCAR history

Rare would be an understatement. For years, the shop has been closed to the public.

Dale Earnhardt, Inc. opened in 1990. The team fielded cars in the NASCAR Cup Series until the 2008 season before it’s close in 2009.

The former race shop has been closed to the public since 2020. However, one lucky fan got a private tour.

“I’m still in shock about it honestly, we live in Oregon and were going on our first trip to NC, so I sent an email to the foundation and had a few phone calls with a very nice lady working there, she showed us everything in the building. Was a huge privilege,” the Reddit user stated.

“All I did was send an email to get in contact with them and call, I’m sure it came across Theresa’s desk at some point but it was free, they said it was a very special occasion and they wanted to do it since we were coming all the way from Oregon.”

“Yeah, it was insane, I left some pictures out because we took like 70, but the place has been frozen in time by Teresa.”

“Yeah, they take really good care of the place, they even have a guy who’s job is only to air up tires every week.”

“The building was empty downstairs, with one other worker upstairs, the lady that gave us the tour worked for the foundation, at DEI’s peak there was over 400, besides the shop next door and the foundation, which is where most of them are now.”

Take a look inside the Dale Earnhardt Inc building below.

Inside, it remains a museum. Iconic cars sit on the showroom floor, including the 1994 Chevy gifted by Richard Childress to Dale Earnhardt.

Dale Earnhardt Jr’s 2004 winner from the Daytona 500 also sits in the showroom. Other race winning cars driven by Martin Truex Jr are also on display. Cars driven by Steve Park and Michael Waltrip also sit pretty.

In the shop area, more rows of iconic cars. For these, some of them sit on flat tires.

The post has since been deleted. But, you can still see the photos in the video below.

The DEI building is owned by Teresa Earnhardt.
