Morrissey has canceled a pair of upcoming shows after an Ottawa man was arrested for threatening his life before his Sept. 12 performance at Cityfolk Festival.

Noah Castellano posted the alleged threat Sept. 4 on Bluesky, targeting the English singer and songwriter, the Ottawa Citizen reported.

Under the account name “guy who gets shot in the head one hundred thousand times a day,” he wrote: “Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9 pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally,” according to court documents.

The 26-year-old was charged after the post, Ottawa police told CBS News. Castellano was released on $5,000 bail, and an investigation is still ongoing.

Morrissey, the 66-year-old former Smiths singer, then announced that upcoming shows at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut on Friday and Boston’s MGM Music Hall on Saturday were canceled for safety reasons.

“Due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, the upcoming shows this weekend at Foxwoods and MGM Music Hall have been canceled,” statement posted to Instagram read. “All tickets will be refunded automatically at your original point of purchase. We appreciate your understanding.”

Morrissey’s next scheduled show is Tuesday in Philadelphia.
