Andre Agassi’s Team World have a healthy 9-3 lead heading into the final day of the Laver Cup, after an incredible sweep on day two.

Following a slow start to the competition, Agassi‘s side responded with four straight-set victories, including Taylor Fritz’s first-ever triumph over Carlos Alcaraz.

Both Francisco Cerundolo and Alex de Minaur also came out on top in their singles matches, before the Australian sealed his second win of the day alongside Alex Michelsen in doubles.

Team World’s heroics left their captain ecstatic on the sidelines, who says the Laver Cup has allowed him to do something he never could during his playing days.

“I’m having a great time,” said Agassi, speaking to Tennis Channel after Cerundolo’s victory over Holger Rune.

“I think what I’ve learned is that, leading up to this event, I was asked what do I expect from myself? How am I going to be?

“I’m like, I have no idea. I barely know how I’m going to be every day in my own life, let alone something I haven’t done before.

“But one thing I can absolutely tell you is I have a bottled-up competitiveness and channel that I used to just keep inside and direct at one person, and now I have Ferraris and machines like this on the court and, you know, I have to do something.

“I’m darn sure you’re gonna try. So all that energy has to come out somewhere.”

Team World need two more wins to win the 2025 Laver Cup

Despite a dream day two for Team World at the Laver Cup, Team Europe can still win the tournament on day three, where each win is worth three points.

Should Agassi’s team clinch two victories from the four matches, however, they will tally an insurmountable 15 points.

First up on day three is a doubles fixture, featuring Team Europe’s Alcaraz and Casper Ruud, against Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka of Team World.

Then, Jakub Mensik will play de Minaur, before the world number one plays his second match of the day against Cerundolo.

The final bout of the Laver Cup will see Alexander Zverev pitted against Fritz, which could end up being the decisive tie.
