Marcus Rashford is at a crossroads in his career with a Manchester United exit looking inevitable this summer.

When he broke through into the first team and established himself as a young superstar, it seemed as though Manchester United’s future would pivot around Marcus Rashford.

However, Rashford has been frozen out by Ruben Amorim with the 27-year-old not even invited to take part in pre-season training this summer.

Rashford’s attitude was heavily criticised before he left to join Aston Villa on loan. Despite a fairly impressive spell in Birmingham, it seems his time as a United player is over.

Ruben Amorim has been ruthless at United and he has made it clear to Rashford that he is not part of his plans.

Amorim is under huge pressure heading into 2025/26 on the back of a Europa League final defeat and a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League.

Ineos continue to back Amorim, but a poor start to the season will see questions asked of the Portuguese head coach.

Via ESPN, Steve Nicol agreed that Rashford could stay at United and try to get back into the squad if Amorim is sacked this season.

After that idea was proposed, Nicol said: “Yeah that’s absolutely a possibility. If they don’t get rid of these ‘famous five’ as you’ve dubbed them, where is the money to make changes?

“They don’t need a couple of players, they need the majority of the team to be quite frank.

“If they don’t get rid of any of these guys, which it doesn’t seem likely, then how is Amorim supposed to do anything?

“You’d like to think they will be better than last year, but how much better with the same squad of players?

“So the chances of him [Amorim] being out by Christmas are pretty high.”

Ruben Amorim faces incredibly tough start to 2025/26

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has rallied behind Amorim as the right man to lead United forward, and it seems he also has plenty of backing from inside the dressing room.

After losing the Europa League final, Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw supported Amorim, insisting he is the perfect manager to lead a rebuild.

Amorim will need every ounce of support from around the club heading into what looks like a very difficult 2025/26 campaign.

United have the toughest start to the season of any club in the top flight, meaning Amorim is under huge pressure to hit the ground running.

Amorim wants to win the Premier League as United boss, but first he will have to prove he has improved his players over the summer.
