It’s been a tough few months for Qinwen Zheng, but things might just be on the up.
Zheng was forced to miss the US Open through injury, and there had been some doubts over her participation for the rest of the year.
During the grass-court season, Zheng knocked Emma Raducanu out of the HSBC Championships, and on her day, she can mix it with the best.
Aryna Sabalenka made a claim about Zheng after the French Open and after missing out on so much tennis, it does appear that there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

Months after her last match out on court, Zheng is due back in action at the China Open, which begins this week.
Now, the 22-year-old has confirmed that she will play in her home event after the draw for the tournament was made.
Zheng reached the quarters at the French Open, but her efforts at the Australian Open and Wimbledon were underwhelming, with the Chinese star struggling with her injury issues at the All England Club.
Sports China confirmed the news earlier today with a statement which read: China’s tennis ace Zheng Qinwen has confirmed that she will compete at the 2025 China Open, the WTA announced on Monday. The 22-year-old was recently spotted training at the National Tennis Centre in Beijing. Looking forward to seeing your remarkable performance, Queen Wen!

How the China Open draw looks for Qinwen Zheng
Zheng will start with a bye as the number seven seed at the China Open, and her first match will see her play either Suzan Lamens or Yafan Wang in the round of 64.
Should she come through that contest, a clash with Linda Noskova is likely, and there’s a chance she could have a couple of nice matches to get back into the swing of things.

It will be great to see one of the top talents in world tennis back out on the court and hopefully, there will be no sign of ill effects from the injury she has struggled with.
Zheng reached the final of the Australian Open in 2024, and the challenge for her now will be to get some matches under her belt ahead of the first major of 2026, which will soon come around.
