Italian goalkeeper claims Yashin Trophy while Swedish striker receives Gerd Muller Trophy
Manchester City’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres have both won awards at the Ballon d’Or ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
Donnarumma, who joined Man City from Paris Saint-Germain earlier in September, has won the Yashin Trophy, an accolade that is given to the best goalkeeper over the last 12 months.
Gyokeres, meanwhile, earns the Gerd Muller Trophy after scoring the most goals for club and country in 2024/25.
Second success for Donnarumma
It is the second time Donnarumma has earned the Yashin Trophy, having previously won it in 2021 with PSG.
In total, the accolade has been won four times by a Premier League goalkeeper, with Donnarumma joining Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez (2023 and 2024) and Liverpool’s Alisson (2019).
“There are a lot of brilliant goalkeepers around the world, so this is incredibly special to me,” Donnarumma said after winning the award.
“I am pleased with my performances over the last year and the trophies I have won, but I know I can still improve and that’s a major reason why I chose to move to Manchester City.
“I am now fully focused on working with Pep Guardiola and his staff to develop my game even further and helping my new team to even more success.”
Gyokeres joins Haaland
Gyokeres earns the prize after scoring a remarkable 54 goals in 52 matches for Portuguese side Sporting and for his national team Sweden.
The trophy has been awarded to the highest-scoring footballer in the previous campaign, taking into account goals scored for both club and country.
Earlier this summer, Gyokeres sealed a move to Arsenal and has since scored three Premier League goals in five appearances.

It is the second time a Premier League player has won the award, after Erling Haaland claimed the accolade for Manchester City in 2023, when he scored 56 times.
