(La Porte, IN) – There’s now a statue at Fox Park in La Porte.
Park Department Superintendent Mark Schreiber said the newly arrived abstract statue is near the amphitheater and comes under a two year lease with the creator, Luke Achterberg.
“It looks great,” he said.
Achteberg works and lives in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Schreiber said the La Porte Urban Enterprise Association is paying the $3,000 cost of having the statue for two years.
He said the statue was last on exhibit in Green Bay, Wisconsin as part of the arts program in that city.
“We’re excited to have it here,” he said.
Schreiber said the park department was approached on whether it wanted the statue by the Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City, an organization that’s been involved in the recent emergence of art in downtown La Porte.
“I think it not only beautifies the city but it draws people in and it creates interest,” he said.
