Chicago’s Leo High School Choir will soon give their biggest performance yet on “America’s Got Talent.”
The choir from the all-boys Catholic school on Chicago’s South Side, described on the show as “the feel-good story of the season,” will perform live in their final shot at winning it all on the popular talent competition.
The choir’s previous cover of “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy, a nod to a band from their home state, garnered them enough votes from the public to make it through to the finale.
“Seeing the guys growing through this experience has been amazing,” choir director Miss Hill said after their performance Tuesday. “This is a special group of guys.”
Now, Leo High School Choir will compete against the remaining top nine acts, including rappers Mama Duke and Micah Palace, improv rapper Chris Turner, singers Jourdan Blue and Jessica Sanchez, aerial performers Sirca Marea, singer-songwriter Steve Ray Ladson, and dancers Team Recycled and LightWire.
The final performances are set to begin at 8 p.m. CT Tuesday on NBC.
Throughout the competition, the group has garnered plenty of support from the judges and fans around the country.
Judge Simon Cowell gave the boys a rare standing ovation for their quarterfinal performance of “Believer” by Imagine Dragons.
“This last stretch, you know, I’m very excited for tonight,” said Christian Whiteside, who graduated in the spring but has been continuing on this journey with the group. “Like, I’m seriously excited … I’m just very excited to be on the stage and to see the crowd. You know, the crowd gives us so much love and support. Our principal is our hype man, you know. So we hear him and the crowd’s screaming and cheering for us. Also, the parents. You can’t forget our wonderful choir manager. You know, she has been wonderful to get us here. Our choir director, she has put in so much work for us. And for tonight, I feel like tonight’s going to be a great show for us and also to be with my brothers and see how much excitement we’re going to have for tonight.”
Miss Hill has been by the choir’s side throughout their entire America’s Got Talent experience, since their audition — and will be there again on Tuesday.
As for what they will do with the money if they win the $1 million prize, several of the boys said they plan to use the money for college, while some said they would use it to help their families.
Following the live performances Tuesday, viewers will be asked to vote for their favorite act at NBC.com/AGTVote, via the AGT App or the NBC App.
The results will be revealed during a finale episode starting at 8 p.m. CT Wednesday.
