A jury in a Fort Pierce federal courthouse has reached a verdict in a case involving a man accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump.Ryan Wesley Routh was found guilty Tuesday of attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.After closing arguments on Tuesday, the jury received the case for deliberation around noon.The jury came to a decision after around two hours, 20 minutes of deliberation.ABC News reported Routh was forcibly removed from the courtroom following the verdict after what Judge Aileen Cannon described as “outburst” from him.Four armed marshals surrounded Routh, who appeared to stand once the jury left the courtroom. He surrounded by the marshals, who walked him out of the courtroom.The Associated Press reported that Routh attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen after the verdict was read.At the same time, Sara Routh – his daughter seated in the courtroom – began shouting.“Dad, I love you,” she said. “Don’t do anything. I will get you out.”“What the …., …. you,” she said before Judge Cannon asked her to be quiet.“He didn’t hurt anybody. This is not fair. This is all rigged. You guys are …..,” she said before being escorted out the courtroom.Judge Cannon later allowed Routh back in the courtroom in shackles and escorted by marshals. He was informed that he will be sentenced on December 18 at 9:30AM.According to federal prosecutors, some of the jurors saw the outburst as they were exiting.“The jury has not yet left the room at the time of the defendant’s conduct,” a prosecutor said.Judge Cannon thanked the lawyers and Routh for their time, “despite your outburst today.”Routh was accused of hiding in the bushes with a firearm while Trump, the then-Republican presidential candidate, was golfing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sept. 15, 2024.According to the Department of Justice, a U.S. Secret Service agent was conducting a perimeter security sweep and saw the partially obscured face of a man, later identified as Routh, in the brush along the fence line near the sixth hole.The agent saw the barrel of a rifle directly aimed directly at him.As the agent began backing away, he saw the rifle barrel move, and the agent fired at Routh.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WPBF 25 NewsThe DOJ said Routh was seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle by a witness.
