Police hazardous device team called for military ordnance found in Dundalk

MERRITT BOULEVARD AT THE MEDSTAR HEALTH FACILITY HERE. AND THIS IS THE WAY THE SCENE LOOKS LIVE RIGHT NOW. EVERYTHING IS JUST ABOUT ALL PACKED UP AND GONE. BUT WE HAVE VIDEO TO SHOW YOU OF WHAT OCCURRED HERE EARLIER AT AROUND 3:00. COUNTY POLICE RECEIVED A CALL SUSPICIOUS DEVICE AT THIS LOCATION. WHEN THEY ARRIVED, IT APPEARED THAT THE DEVICE THEY WERE LOOKING AT APPEARED TO BE A CLAYMORE MINE. NOW THEY EVACUATED MEDSTAR FACILITY HERE. THEY MADE EVERYBODY LEAVE THE PARKING LOT AND THEY CLEARED OUT THE AREA SO THAT SPECIALISTS COULD COME IN AND EXAMINE THE DEVICE. IT TURNS OUT THAT DEVICE WAS ACTUALLY A NOVELTY TRAILER HITCH COVER FOR LIKE, A CLASS THREE HITCH ON THE BACK OF A VEHICLE. AN INDIVIDUAL ENDED UP CALLING POLICE AND SAID, HEY, LOOK, THAT’S MINE. IT FELL OFF MY TRUCK AND YOU KNOW, THERE’S NO HAZARD TO IT. NOW. POLICE WERE ABLE TO CHECK IT OUT WITH THEIR ROBOTS. FOUND OUT IT WAS A NOVELTY HITCH, AND THEY MADE THE AREA CLEAR. NO INJURIES TO REPORT. AND WE HAVE AN OPEN AND SHUT CASE OF WHAT ACTUALLY TRANSPIRED HERE AT MEDSTAR MEDICAL FACILITY ON MERRITT BOULEVARD. REPORTIN

The Baltimore County police hazardous device team was called Wednesday afternoon for a military ordnance found in Dundalk.

County police told 11 News that officials were called around 3:25 p.m. to the MedStar Health building on Merritt Boulevard, where the device was found.

The entire building has been evacuated and a perimeter was established to ensure no one entered the building.
