HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) – Residents and police made a strange discovery in a neighborhood near Bay City on Tuesday afternoon.

Residents in the 800 block of West Hampton Road in Hampton Township east of Essexville reported finding a small alligator sitting in the front yard of a home around 3:30 p.m. P

Officers from the Hampton Township Department of Public Safety found the 3-foot South American crocodile resting under a crab apple tree. They corralled the reptile without causing any injuries.

Authorities are not sure how the crocodile ended up in the neighborhood or whether it escaped from a cage somewhere.
