Alexandria residents are experiencing internet, television and phone service disruptions Thursday after a third-party truck struck fiber lines, causing an outage affecting multiple neighborhoods across the city.

The outage began around 8 a.m. Thursday when the truck hit Xfinity’s fiber lines at the intersection of North Quaker Lane and Janney’s Lane, according to a statement provided to ALXnow from Comcast.

“A third-party truck struck our fiber lines at the intersection of North Quaker Lane and Janney’s Lane, damaging our network and causing service disruptions for some customers in the area,” the statement said. “Our crews are on-site working to have all impacted customers up and running as soon as possible.”

Xfinity sent notifications to affected customers by 8:20 a.m. The company’s first estimate projected restoration by 11:10 a.m. Eastern time, but that timeline was pushed back to 2 p.m. in a follow-up message sent to customers at 10:01 a.m. As of 1:25 p.m., the estimated restoration time has been extended to approximately 4:05 p.m.

The outage has impacted neighborhoods including Seminary Hill, Taylor Run, Eisenhower West and areas near the Potomac River, according to Comcast’s outage map. The map shows service disruptions across central Alexandria, with some areas experiencing outages affecting hundreds of customers.

Customers can check the status of their specific address on Xfinity’s outage map and sign up for SMS alerts to receive updates on restoration progress.
