A New York man wanted in connection with a homicide in Albany County has been captured in the Adirondacks, according to local and state police. Anthony Bechand was captured in the town of Brighton, which is in Franklin County, Cohoes Mayor William Keeler and Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin confirmed during a press conference on Friday.Keeler said that a civilian spotted Bechand about three miles from where his pickup truck was found days earlier and called police to report the sighting. He was arrested shortly after.Hearst-owned the Albany Times Union initially reported Bechand’s capture earlier Friday.He is being considered a suspect in Rodriguez’ death. He is the only suspect being investigated in the case.There had been a manhunt for Bechand in Franklin County for several weeks after his pickup truck was found abandoned in Brighton. Bechand was wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of Amanda Rodriguez, his girlfriend with whom he lived in Cohoes, New York.Keeler said Cohoes averages about one homicide every 18 months, but they were surprised that the deadly incident happened in such a quiet suburban area of the city.Neither Bechand nor Rodriguez had a criminal history, and Waldin said that police had never been called to the home for any incident in the decade that Rodriguez lived there.A funeral service for Rodriguez is scheduled for Saturday in Altona, Keeler said.
