There have been rumors and reports at different times this offseason that the Los Angeles Lakers have been trying to acquire Andrew Wiggins, a former All-Star two-way forward, from the Miami Heat. Reportedly, the Heat have been asking for more than the Lakers have been willing to give up in such a trade, and according to insider Brett Siegel, Miami doesn’t even have much desire to move Wiggins any time soon.
There is always the chance that something changes on either side and Wiggins becomes more attainable for Los Angeles. But Lakers beat reporter Jovan Buha doesn’t sound optimistic about the prospects of Wiggins coming to the Southland. During a recent episode of “Buha’s Block,” he gave Wiggins a relatively low chance of becoming a Laker.
“Twenty-five percent, 30 percent, I would put it certainly under 50 percent,” said Jovan Buha on a September 25th livestream. “If I’m saying over 50 percent, then I think it’s going to happen. As of right now, I would put it certainly under 50 percent.”
Wiggins, who is 30 years of age, averaged 18 points a game and shot 37.4% from 3-point range last season. He has one year remaining on his contract at $30.17 million, and he could be the exact prototype of the type of player L.A. needs to become a legitimate championship contender.
