Weston Smale, owner of PCS Computers, 938 Lake Ave., Suite A in Elyria, said his goal is keep his customers from overspending on their technology needs.

Smale said he doesn’t want customers to spend more than they need to.

And, customers can save at least half of what they would spend at the big box stores, while still getting quality computers, he said.

Smale has owned the business since November 2020.

He had repaired computers from home for 15 years before deciding that it was time to move into a bigger location.

Smale rented one side of the current location for two years before buying the location.

Opening a business during the COVID-19 pandemic actually worked in Smale’s favor because people needed computers to stay informed on what was happening during that time, and everyone just wanted to get out of their homes after being told to stay indoors.

A typical day at PCS Computers starts before the business opens, Smale said.

“We check our orders from the  previous day and ship them,” he said. “We then fill our website orders, and then begin repairs.

“We check our inventory and we buy in bulk. We then make sure that everything is in working order and ready to go before making sales so that our customers will have a good inventory of items to choose from.”

Smale said the most common problem that PCS Computers sees from their customers is they just need help with understanding how to use their new equipment, and make the transition from old to new..

“The big thing right now is that Windows 10 will be out of support in October, and everyone wants to update to Windows 11,” he said.

Technician Andrew Vandergrift, who has been working at PCS Computers for six months, specializes in selling refurbished computers with discounts as low as $60.

PCS Computers can do custom builds for gaming, and they can help with data recovery.

If Smale and Vandergrift can’t retrieve your data from your computer, they offer Drive Savers Data Recovery.

They also will do repairs, have free estimates, will buy old computers, pay customers if the parts can be used for other computers and even will recycle old computers.

The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed Saturdays and Sundays.
