MASSENA, New York (WWNY) – A sizable donation brings new technology to Massena Public Library, but the library has no idea who to thank.
“I guess the first thing you think of is: Wow, is this real?”
That’s what the library’s assistant director, Heather Sarsfield, is saying after an anonymous donor gifted the library 12 new desktop computers and monitors. Five are for public use, and the rest are for staff.
The new technology will replace computers that are more than a decade old.
“The patrons were complaining, to a certain extent, because they were very slow, and even just to do the very simplest tasks on there, any type of web browsers, it got bogged down, it took forever,” said Sarsfield.
Installation of the computers is free as well. Ben LaValley of Northern Computers and Technology is donating his time to set them up.
“He deserves a shout-out for that. He’s been coming in here in the afternoons when he can and setting everything up and getting everything else set for us,” said Sarsfield.
She and others at the library are thankful for a gift that will help the community.
“We don’t have tons of money to throw around like that, so when someone actually steps up and does that to help our patrons and then to help us on top of that, which was totally unexpected, it means everything to us,” said Sarsfield.
The new computers should all be ready to go by the end of next week.
