Novak Djokovic had no idea that winning a friendly bet against Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon would come at a price. As a playful consequence, the Belarusian handed the Serb some unwashed berries on a smoothie bowl, her quirky way of settling the score. Here’s the full story behind the light-hearted exchange.
Aryna Sabalenka Serves Novak Djokovic a Customized Unwashed Açaí Berry Bowl
Beyond her tennis achievements and numerous brand endorsements, Sabalenka has also ventured into YouTube. She recently launched her channel, debuting with a video that captures the first week of her 2025 Wimbledon campaign.
The Belarusian also hit the practice courts at the All England Club with Djokovic, and the two shared a light-hearted wager during their session. Sabalenka’s boyfriend, Georgios Frangulis, also present in the video, revealed more details about the bet.
“Aryna and Novak were practising together; they had the ball cans on the grass, and they had to hit it. Whoever made it, won,” he said.
However, the reward was revealed by the 24-time Major champion.
“So you make it, I make personally açaí for you and other way around,” Djokovic said in the clip.
For those unaware, Frangulis is the founder and CEO of OAKBERRY, a superfood company that serves açaí berry bowls and a wide range of smoothies.
Both players engaged in a rally with a can of balls placed on each side of the court. After an extended back-and-forth exchange, it was the Serb who landed the winning shot and claimed the bet.
“So right now she has to pay off her debt by making açaí, right? And handing me directly so I can eat it directly. Fresh!” he said later in the clip.
The 24-time Major champion was initially delighted to receive the customized açaí bowl. However, upon learning that Sabalenka hadn’t washed the berries, he joked that he could already feel it in his stomach.
“Official. It’s Official. Wow! I am going to eat this açai with great pleasure. I am going to take my time. You didn’t wash the berries? I can feel my stomach already,” he said.
It was yet another display of the friendly camaraderie between Sabalenka and Djokovic, who have shared similar light-hearted moments on several occasions in the past.
When Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka Engaged in an Amusing Wimbledon Incident
Djokovic and Sabalenka clearly share a playful rapport. One example unfolded during Sabalenka’s pre-tournament press conference at Wimbledon. As the session was wrapping up, Djokovic made a surprise appearance.
Sabalenka playfully asked the Serb what he thought of her level of play, referencing their practice session before the tournament. The former World No. 1 gave an honest reply.
“I think you have the potential. You’re really talented player. Nice strokes, good technique, but can I be honest? You’re lacking intensity on the court. You don’t have enough intensity. It’s too flat,” he said.
The Belarusian boasts an impressive 47–9 win-loss record this season, while the Serb stands at 26–9. Both are expected to feature in the upcoming North American hard-court swing as they aim to build strong momentum ahead of the US Open.
