Angel Reese became the latest WNBA star to deliver a fresh dig over pay after Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier claimed the WNBA has “the worst leadership in the world,” igniting a feud with league commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
Collier unleashed a sharp rebuke of WNBA leadership in her end-of-season remarks, calling the league’s governance “tone-deaf” and “dismissive” before aiming at inconsistent officiating and the silence from the commissioner’s office. The Lynx star also alleged that in private conversations, Engelbert had told younger stars like Caitlin Clark they should be “grateful” for their platform via the WNBA, and that players should “thank their lucky stars” for the media rights deals she negotiated amid the collective bargaining stalemate.
Reese, one of the league’s most recognizable and marketable stars, has repeatedly spoken out over the collective bargaining dispute, and signed a similar rookie contract to Clark when she was drafted later on in the first round after her former Iowa rival to the Chicago Sky. Reese earned just over $73,000 per year in her two WNBA seasons thus far, and more, competing in the offseason Unrivaled women’s basketball league.

Reese has now revealed that she earned six figures over her “Mebounds” merchandise. The name of her merchandise is a comedic response to online haters over her successful WNBA rebounding.
The Sky Star filed a trademark for the phrase in her home state of Maryland earlier this year, which has allowed her to produce merchandise, including T-shirts and sweatshirts.
Reese also has a successful partnership with sports clothing brand Reebok. Taking to her podcast, Reese broke down her merchandise earnings in a fresh dig at WNBA pay.
“If you know, you know. They tried to clown me for rebounds and what did I do?” Reese said.

“I made a bag off of it. Six figures plus. So, y’all can try again because I do need another idea for some more colorways. So, just keep it coming.”
The WNBA’s top salary barely approaches $250,000, a figure that helped motivate Collier and Breanna Stewart to launch the Unrivaled league, offering players guaranteed six-figure paychecks for a nine-week season.
Reese participated in the inaugural Unrivaled tournament as part of Rose BC, and the former LSU star reigned supreme at the end, winning the competition.

Despite sharp digs by Collier, the WNBA commissioner Engelbert reaffirmed her respect for the player. “I have the utmost respect for Napheesa Collier and for all the players in the WNBA,” she said.
“Together, we have all worked tirelessly to transform this league. My focus remains on ensuring a bright future for the players and the WNBA, including collaborating on how we continue to elevate the game.
“I am disheartened by how Napheesa characterized our conversations and league leadership, but even when our perspectives differ, my commitment to the players and to this work will not waver.”
