Michael Jordan’s Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway was far from a typical owner’s day. Despite being embroiled in a heated antitrust court battle against NASCAR over charters, the basketball legend and co-owner of 23XI Racing stayed put in Tyler Reddick’s pit box throughout the Bank of America ROVAL 400.

This was despite both his drivers – Reddick and Bubba Wallace, who had a run-in with 23XI co-founder Denny Hamlin at Kansas – seeing their playoff dreams crumble.

The scene around Jordan spoke volumes. As his two Toyotas grappled with mechanical problems, unfortunate timing, and harsh luck, the six-time NBA champion remained steadfast, his gaze glued to the monitors, his concentration unwavering. The news emerges as NASCAR star Tyler Reddick’s wife issues update on their son ahead of race.

It was a challenging day for the entire 23XI Racing team. Reddick, who kicked off the day on pole and seemed set to be a strong contender early on, couldn’t quite recapture the rhythm that propelled him into the Round of 12, ending up in 10th place.

Following his elimination, he expressed his gratitude: “I just really appreciate the racing community. Countless people have reached out and helped along the way.

“In hindsight, maybe we could chase points harder … Just lost some spots in key moments today.”

Wallace, on the other hand, battled through traffic but fell behind towards the end, finishing 15th.

When the checkered flag flew, both were officially eliminated from the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

The day was all about Shane Van Gisbergen, who continued his stellar Cup Series season with another commanding victory – his fifth of the year.

He also joined the ranks of NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon as only the second driver in history to win five consecutive road course races, further cementing his dominance.

The Kiwi racer took the reins of the 109-lap race and never relinquished control.

Van Gisbergen crossed the finish line a whopping 15 seconds ahead of Kyle Larson, with Christopher Bell securing third place on the podium.

Chris Buescher and Michael McDowell rounded out the top five, while Reddick managed to secure a tenth-place finish.

As the dust settled and the final results came in, the playoff picture crystallized.

Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, Bubba Wallace, and Tyler Reddick were knocked out, paving the way for a semifinal lineup of Larson, Elliott, Bell, Byron, Blaney, Briscoe, Logano, and Hamlin heading to Las Vegas next weekend.
