BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A former Brazos County juvenile probation officer remains in the Collin County jail on Monday, more than a week after his arrest on child solicitation and child pornography charges.
Steven Dale Criddle was arrested by the Department of Public Safety in Collin County on Sept. 28 and faces second-degree felony charges of online solicitation of a minor for sexual conduct and solicitation to commit aggravated sexual assault of a child, as well as a third-degree felony charge for possession of child pornography. He faces a combined $200,000 bond.
Brazos County’s Juvenile Services division employed Criddle as a Juvenile Probation officer dating back to at least 2015, according to online records. Criddle resigned from the county shortly after his arrest.
Monday, Brazos County confirmed an internal investigation into Criddle’s actions as a probation officer, but said no formal complaints had been filed about his conduct.
“Brazos County is aware of the arrest of one of its employees in another county. Immediately upon notification, the County opened an internal investigation into the matter,” said Brazos County General Counsel Bruce Erratt. “At this time, the employee is no longer working for Brazos County and has submitted a resignation. Brazos County has not received any complaints related to this employee in their official capacity.”
A probable cause statement detailing Criddle’s arrest and charges was not immediately available from Collin County or the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Erratt promised cooperation from the county as the investigations into Criddle move forward.
“Brazos County takes these matters seriously and will fully cooperate with law enforcement authorities in their criminal investigation,” he said.
