FOX Sports broadcaster Jamie Little generated a fierce wave of backlash from NASCAR fans after making an awkward on-air blunder.
Since stepping into a greater role of play-by-play announcer for the Craftsman Truck Series, Little has made a conscious effort to broaden NASCAR’s audience by explaining the basics of the sport while covering races.
Her method has drawn the ire of some viewers, however, with droves of disgruntled fans particularly slamming her call of Tyler Ankrum’s thrilling win in the Black’s Tire 200 at Rockingham Speedway.
Most recently, Little faced criticism for asking a question during the Ecosave 250 that appeared to have an obvious answer. Last Friday, Will Rodgers was feeling under the weather and in danger of needing a replacement.
As reserve driver Parker Kligerman readied himself to pilot the No. 20 Chevrolet if needed, Little questioned why Young’s Motorsports would bother continuing to compete in the event without Rodgers.
“So why would you do this? If your driver is not feeling good, he’s going to get out,” she said to Joey Logano. “Why would you ask another driver to hop into it and finish it?”
Guest analyst Logano seemed confused as to why Little asked such a thing, replying: “Someone’s gotta finish the race, right?”
Taking to social media, droves of viewers blasted Little for the “embarrassing” question. “Wait is this Jamie? She’s been around long enough, she knows the answer. That’s just a terrible setup question to have them talk about it,” one X user wrote.
Another added: “I don’t know if she’s just playing Devil’s advocate, but you can hear the disbelief in Logano’s voice as he answers her embarrassing question. I’m convinced the people running these broadcasts purposely keep her in the booth to spite fans. It really seems like they hate the fans.”

A third chimed in, “My goodness, what was FOX thinking when they made her a play by play announcer? She’s so much better on pit road. Let her stay in what she’s a natural in. Or at least let the guy that does play by play for ARCA do this because he actually has potential.”
Speaking to Sports Illustrated’s Mark Beech back in June, Little shed light on the challenges that come with transitioning from pit reporting to play-by-play commentary. “Pit reporting and play-by-play are two very different skill sets,” she explained.
“I went into the booth with the Arca Menards series in 2021, and I remember thinking, Well, I’m going to cover it like I do as a pit reporter. But it’s so different. You’re the traffic control cop, you’re talking the whole time. As a pit reporter, you’re doing interviews, but then you’re doing 30-second updates and reports throughout a race. You’re not talking the whole time. Play-by-play is a lot.
“So it’s very different. Pit reporting, that’s always been my jam. I hope that it’s always part of my life. I never want to give up pit reporting on Sundays. It’s interacting with the people. It’s those relationships that you built over all those years. It’s taking that breaking news, and you’re telling the stories. Nobody’s telling me what to say. I love that. But play-by-play is like hanging with your buddies watching a race and you’re having fun doing it — with a lot of technicality mixed in.”
