Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. will be having plenty of firsts this season as he experiences his first NBA season outside of playing for the Denver Nuggets. Many of the questions sent Porter’s way has been how he will look in head coach Jordi Fernandez’s offense, but Brooklyn can expect to see some familiar actions from the sharpshooting forward.
“All right, so this play is called double touch bump. It was kind of a broken play, got downhill to my left and dunked the ball. Growing up all the way until I got to the NBA, that was a lot of my game,” Porter said (starting at :30 mark of embedded video) when sitting with Nets Film Focus. This series by Brooklyn’s content team attempts to highlight how players on the team make their plays and it’s no different for the former Missouri Tiger.

“Being in Denver with the players, we had kind of everybody had to fit a little bit different of a role.” Porter continued. “Over here, I know my role is going to be different. Working with these guys and really getting comfortable in some of those positions is going to be super important for me.”
In his preseason debut with the Nets in Friday’s game against Hapoel Jerusalem, Porter was not only in the starting lineup, but he also played 17 minutes in his initial look with his new team. Porter had a solid debut as he put up 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists, tying forward Noah Clowney for second on the team in scoring and falling two points behind forward Terance Mann, Brooklyn’s leading-scorer in the game.
During Porter’s debut with the Nets, he employed many of the cutting actions that he did during his time with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray with the Nuggets. After Friday’s preseason game, Nets fans get to see how Porter will fit with the team moving forward as he seeks to put forth a different on-court product than he has shown thus far in his career.
