Moises Caicedo is starting to get the kind of recognition that his world-class Chelsea displays deserve.
Chelsea fans who watch Moises Caicedo, 23, will know that his impressive form at the start of the 2025-26 campaign is nothing new. Last season, the midfield powerhouse was such a consistent performer at Stamford Bridge.
Gary Neville’s verdict on Caicedo is that he’s currently the best midfielder in the Premier League.
He’s played every minute so far in the top flight, where he’s renowned for breaking up play and covering huge distances. On top of that, he’s shown an attacking threat this season by scoring three goals in seven league matches.

Chelsea paid a mammoth £115m (Sky Sports) to sign Caicedo from Brighton in 2023. After a challenging debut season with the Blues, he really found his feet last year as he began to justify his price tag.
According to Frank Leboeuf, the Ecuador international could well be worth £200m with how exceptional he’s playing.
When discussing Blues midfielder Caicedo, Leboeuf told ESPN: “Remember the first season, they paid £100m and we were wondering, is he worth it? But now he is worth more than that, even double of that. That guy gives such work and business in the middle of the park that for the others it is simpler.”
Caicedo is currently under contract at Chelsea until 2031, so fans should feel confident that they’ve got many more years to enjoy the combative midfielder.
He looks so comfortable playing in central midfield next to Enzo Fernandez. Similarly, the Blues look even more formidable when you throw Romeo Lavia into the mix as well.
John Obi Mikel said Caicedo is worth every penny because of how well he’s playing for his club.
Our one concern regarding the midfielder is the risk of injury because of the high workload across the past last year, which is why it’s a relief he’s been afforded some rest by Ecuador during October’s international break.

Back in the summer, Chelsea defender Levi Colwill insisted Caicedo would become elite and one of the world’s very best midfielders. He said: “I’ve played with him for a couple of years now, and I’d put my house on him becoming one of the best midfielders in the world. I don’t know how he’s that good, but he just is. He’s an absolute joke of a player.”
In fairness, Colwill’s claim already doesn’t look too far off.
We will see over time if Caicedo can maintain this ridiculously high level, especially in the Champions League. If he can shine in this season’s European competition, it will be impossible to overlook him for one of the top central midfielders around.
