Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has now dropped his two cents on the current state of the Red Devils under Ruben Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have won three of their opening seven Premier League matches in the 2025-26 season and Manchester United are out of the Carabao Cup competition.
United hosted Sunderland at Old Trafford ahead of the October international break and the Red Devils walked away with all three Premier League points on Saturday.
Mason Mount opened the scoring for United in the first half before summer signing Benjamin Sesko netted in his second consecutive match for the Red Devils.
United’s Premier League result over Sunderland moved the Red Devils to 10th place in the table, with the Red Devils only one point behind the ninth-place Black Cats.

Manchester United have struggled for form under Ruben Amorim and the Red Devils head coach has failed to win back-to-back Premier League matches in his reign.
Amorim has found himself under pressure on a week-by-week basis when results are going against the Red Devils after a bumpy start to the 2025-26 campaign.
Speaking to Ally McCoist on talkSPORT, Rio Ferdinand admitted that the standout issue is for United to clinically finish on the chances that they create in matches.
“Yeah, and one of the things I think — I agree Ally — because you look at Man United have probably, I think, they’ve had the most entries into the opposition half, opposition box, most chances created, I think,” he said.
“So, they’re getting certain things right, but obviously, the most critical thing is putting the ball in the back of the net and they have been able to do that by hook or by crook.
“So, is there an element of lacking confidence? Yes, in front of [the] goal. Is there an element of maybe needing a bit of luck? You know more than anyone — you guys [were] centre-forwards — you need luck sometimes.”

Rio Ferdinand explains to Ally McCoist his current feelings about the state of Man Utd’s 2025-26 Premier League season
United face a tough test once the October international break ends, with the Red Devils travelling to Anfield to face defending Premier League champions Liverpool.
But Liverpool have lost momentum in recent weeks and the current Premier League titleholders have tasted defeat in their last three matches across all competitions.
Ferdinand has revealed that he has been asked about his feelings on United right now and the 46-year-old ex-TNT Sports pundit is living in the “land of hope.”
“And if those things start to formulate, then we might start seeing a better, more consistent Manchester United,” he continued.
“But these are all ifs, buts and maybes. And people ask me, ‘How do you feel about Manchester United right now?’ I’m in the land of hope more than anything right now.
“And we need to get most of our fans out of that hopeful thinking. And that, like I said, results and consistency [are] going to be the only way.”
United and Liverpool’s Premier League clash is slated for 19th October and kick-off for the match is scheduled for 4:30pm UK time.
