Eichel, who could have become a free agent on July 1, now will become the highest-paid player in Vegas’ franchise history, topping the mark set by Mitch Marner in July when he signed an eight-year, $96 million deal ($12 million AAV).

Eichel is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he shattered Vegas’ franchise records for points (94) and assists (66). He has been the offensive focal point for the Golden Knights since they acquired him in a trade from Buffalo in 2021, and he has developed into one of the best two-way centers in the NHL. The 28-year-old led all Vegas forwards in ice time at even strength, on the power play and on the penalty kill last season.

The center has totaled 253 points in 241 regular-season games for the Golden Knights, and has been even better in the playoffs. Eichel had 26 points in the 2023 postseason run, when he helped Vegas to a Stanley Cup title, and finished as runner-up in the Conn Smythe Trophy voting.

Locking up Eichel long-term solidifies the top of the lineup for the Golden Knights. He joins Marner and Tomas Hertl as core pieces with contracts running through at least the 2029-30 season. The club also has captain Mark Stone and lockdown center William Karlsson under contract for two more years.

Vegas’ core may be aging, but it is still within its window to compete for the Stanley Cup again. The Golden Knights enter 2025-26 looking for their eighth playoff appearance and fifth division title in nine years in the NHL. Signing Eichel and Marner to long-term deals gives them two of the best forwards in the league for the foreseeable future.
