Arsenal have entered the October international break in fine form and at the top of the Premier League table.

It’s no secret that the Gunners are desperate to land the title, with Mikel Arteta guiding the side to three consecutive second-placed finishes.

In that time, Arsenal have missed some big opportunities to make the Premier League title their own, but they are determined to make sure it isn’t passed up again.

A summer of heavy investment saw roughly £250 million spent by Andrea Berta, giving the manager plenty of quality to work with.

Now, with the side hitting their stride, there is a growing belief that Arsenal can win it this season.

Arsenal’s comeback win over Newcastle and eventual victory against West Ham have brought belief back to the side and their title chances.

That has coincided with a drop in form for Liverpool, who have lost consecutive league games late on to both Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

With Arsenal now top of the Premier League at the international break and with some fine displays so far, that belief is growing, and that is reflected by former star Ian Wright.

Speaking on The Overlap, he said: “What last week has done is reaffirm to people that, listen, we’ve got a great chance of winning the league.

“I think we’ve got the best squad in the league at the moment. It’s now up to the manager to make sure he puts the right pieces in the picture at the right time.

“We’ve seen a couple of results where I think he could have started different people to get the game done, but then he does his thing with bringing people on; he finished it well against Newcastle. He was more positive, exactly what we needed to be.

“Because last year, when Liverpool slipped up, we weren’t able to benefit. We didn’t take advantage. But when we did that against Newcastle, it made people realise, okay, this is a step forward in what we’re trying to do and shows we’re definitely in this fight as long as we can be.

“Now, talking about Arsenal, everyone’s saying, ‘Oh, it’s Arsenal now,’ because we’ve seen City and Liverpool falter.

“Arsenal are now in the driving seat, and this is where we see the mentality of our players. They’ve finished second three times; they know what to do. They’ve been chasing City and Liverpool for the last few seasons. It’s their time now, so it’s up to them mentally to go and do it.

“There’s already excitement to win it, and there’s no reason to be afraid of saying that. Arsenal are in a position to take it.”

It’s a clear sign of faith in Arsenal that they can finally get the job done, but there are still 31 games for them to go.

The start of the season offers an opportunity for fans to better understand their teams and what they can and can’t do.

For Arsenal, it seems like a continuation of their past few seasons, with defensive solidity offering a base for the attack.

So far, the Gunners are favourites, with OPTA’s supercomputer predicting that they have a 44% chance of winning the title.

Liverpool are just behind on 30%, while Manchester City are third-favourites at 14% and a few others hover around the one and two percent mark.

Comparing Arsenal to last season, they are one point worse off compared to the first seven matchdays, but they have five more points than the corresponding fixtures they’ve already played.

It suggests things are going well so far, with the aim of continuing that good form.
