Social Hill, Ark. (KATV) — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has confirmed a truck collision led to the death of a Mountain Lion on Highway 84 in Hot Spring County.
Near Social Hill, the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on October 8, 2025.
The big cat was later identified as a healthy male, weighing about 160 pounds, according to AGFC.
“We currently don’t have confirmed evidence of reproducing population in the state,” said Randy Zellers, AGFC assistant chief of communications.
“This is the first mountain lion confirmed dead in the wild in Arkansas since February 2024 and only the third confirmed dead since 1975,” according to a release.
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission staff collected the large cat from the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office.
Zellers said they don’t have confirmed evidence of a reproducing population in the state.
As of now, AGFC is using its DNA sample to determine where it originated.
