Google keeps experimenting with new Pixel colors, but after seeing the new Nest Cam and its “Berry” color, all I can think about is a red Pixel phone.

Elephant in the room (aka my bad Photoshop job) aside, we’ve yet to see Google try a red Pixel phone.

With the introduction of its new “Berry” colorway, it’s simply time for this to happen. It needs to happen.

Google’s “Berry” red color is debuting on the Nest Cam Indoor (3rd gen, wired) and is also set to show up on next year’s Google Home Speaker. It’s a bright and colorful hue for the home, to the point where it almost looks out of place alongside some decor, but it’s also just begging to be on a phone.

Like the Pixel 10’s “Indigo” invokes the color blue without being a run-of-the-mill blue, the new “Berry” feels like red without being just a standard red.

It also feel like a throwback to vibrant red of the Nexus 5. “Berry” has the same underlying color, but without punching you in the face with its saturation.

Will it happen? Personally, I’d be shocked if it didn’t, but this is Google, so who’s to say?
