A bus carrying members of the Georgia Bulldogs support staff was struck by another vehicle on Friday afternoon as the bus was on its way to the Auburn football game. The bus was heading south on Hwy 316 toward I-85.
According to a University of Georgia spokesman, there were no injuries to members of the support staff. They will be placed on a new bus shortly.
There were no Georgia players on the bus as the football team and its coaches are set to fly out of Athens later this afternoon.
The game between Georgia and Auburn is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, on Friday, October 10, at approximately 1:12 PM, a motor coach bus traveling west on SR 316, carrying UGA staffers, was struck by a pickup truck as it traveled through the intersection at Jimmie Daniel Road. Post 32 Troopers responded to conduct the crash investigation. The driver of the pickup was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional with non-life-threatening injuries. No injuries were reported on the motor coach bus.
UPDATE 3:12 – Georgia officials released the following statement:
“A bus carrying UGA support staff to Auburn was involved in a minor traffic incident today. No staff sustained any injuries. We are thankful for the quick response of local law enforcement and emergency personnel.”
