Newly sworn-in Refugio Police Chief Hugo Rosas escaped a major crash with no injuries after his patrol vehicle flipped onto its side and rested in the middle of the 200 block of Second Street this afternoon.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Harold Mallory, Rosas was waving at someone before his vehicle clipped a trailer that was protruding into the roadway.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. The area was blocked off to traffic for approximately 90 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Mallory told the Refugio County Press that the ramp of the trailer was down and the vehicle’s passenger side tires went up the ramp, causing the vehicle to flip onto its driver’s side and rest in Second Street. According to Mallory, a child was in the truck attached to the trailer.
Mayor Wanda Dukes confirmed to the Refugio County Press that Rosas escaped the crash with no injuries. Dukes said a mandatory drug test was performed on Rosas after the accident.
Mallory said no citations were issued.
Traffic was blocked at the scene
Rosas, 54, was sworn in as chief on Sept. 23.
