Meghan was reported to be surprised at learning of the true value of Prince Harry‘s fortune when she married him.
The Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from Royal duties in 2020, was reportedly left disappointed when she found out he was actually only a millionaire.
Learning that her husband had a much smaller fortune than she might have believed was thought to be a shock for Meghan. Royal author Tom Quinn detailed in his book “Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants” that she thought she would have been living in Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.
The reality was very different with Meghan finding herself in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, which came with no staff and the couple were left to look after themselves.
Meghan was reported to have made her feelings known about their humble residence, especially compared to Prince William and Kate Middleton. In Quinn’s book it’s detailed that a member of Palace staff suggested that Meghan’s troubles began with this small living situation, and her resentment with the Royal Family grew.
A Royal report earlier this year indicates that Prince William, due to his position as heir to the throne, is surpassing their earnings, despite the Sussexes’ declared aim of achieving financial independence.
Prince William’s estimated net worth, which he shares with wife Kate, is a massive $134 million, according to Heart. As the Duke of Cornwall, the future King generates annual revenue from the private Duchy of Cornwall estate, which comprises 52,264 hectares of land, predominantly situated in the south-west of England.
According to the private estate’s website, the Duchy’s portfolio comprises “arable and livestock farms, residential and commercial properties, as well as forests, rivers, quarries, and coastline.”
