Jannik Sinner headlined the honour roll of Wimbledon champions from this year.

Sinner beat Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, enacting revenge from Roland Garros where he had three championship points.

The other singles tournament at Wimbledon was won by Iga Swiatek, who thrashed Amanda Anisimova in her final.

While the two singles champions took most of the headlines, there was also history made in the doubles events.

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool became the first all-British team to win the Wimbledon men’s doubles title in 89 years.

When comparing the two respective champions on the Nothing Major Podcast, former ATP players Steve Johnson, John Isner and Sam Querrey discussed whether they thought Sinner could beat Cash and Glasspool on his own.

While Johnson dismissed the idea, Isner and Querrey both agreed that Sinner had what it takes to beat the Wimbledon doubles champions.

Johnson: “I think the doubles guys get them. There is too much coverage.”

Isner: “Sinner wins.”

Querrey: “I think Sinner wins too.”

Johnson: “There is no way. I get there is a big difference [in ability] but they are just going to cover the court.”

Querrey: “They have never seen this level before! I’m taking Sinner.”

Isner: “Prime Bob and Mike Bryan I am taking them, but Lloyd Glasspool and Cash, I’m taking Sinner!”

When did Jannik Sinner last play in doubles?

While he is not known for his doubles prowess, Sinner did win an ATP title at the Atlanta Open in 2021 with Reilly Opelka, who has been very outspoken against doubles this year.

Sinner’s appearances in doubles have been more fleeting since, with the four-time Grand Slam champion only playing once in that format since.

That appearance came just last month at the Halle Open, when Sinner partnered his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego.

Sinner lost to Alexander Bublik to suffer an early singles exit from the Halle Open, and it was not much different in doubles either.

Playing against another scratch singles pairing of Karen Khachanov and Alex Michelsen in their first round match, Sinner and Sonego lost, 2-6 7-5 10-3, despite leading by a set and a break.

The next confirmed doubles appearance for Sinner will be alongside Emma Navarro for the revamped US Open mixed doubles event.
