President Donald Trump shook hands with various world leaders in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for more than 20 minutes ahead of the ceasefire deal signing.
With Trump standing center stage, behind large “PEACE 2025” lettering, world leaders were introduced and walked up to him individually, standing for photographs. In their short audience with the president of the United States, it appeared some leaders tried to get a word in, though the audio was inaudible for much of the exchanges.
Trump and French President Macron shook hands for nearly 30 seconds, speaking and tightening their grip as they faced the cameras.
“Who is this woman? Beautiful woman,” Trump said, as friend and ally Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni walked up to shake his hand.
“There he is. You gave me a nice combination,” Trump said to the prime minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, who was up next. “He’s got plenty of oil, a lot of oil.”
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shook hands with Trump and appeared to be trying to convey something to him. They shook hands and spoke for nearly a minute. At the end, Trump said, “Talk to me tomorrow.”
Trump also shook hands and spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who visited Trump last week in the Oval Office.
When Carney walked up, Trump said, “I told you.” Carney replied, “You told me.”
It wasn’t just world leaders that Trump shook hands with. Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, shook hands with Trump. Infantino has visited Trump in the Oval Office multiple times, including when Trump announced that the World Cup draw will take place in Washington, DC.
